the graphics card is the bottleneck....you will not be able to play newer games with it (some maybe on the lowest quality settings if you're lucky).
and the 256mb is just shared memory which makes the card even slower... :?

TroubleShooting -

#1 - Do you have any processes running?
#2 - Could've you accidentaly opened a clone of the game?
#3 - Any malicious virus / worms - That could be slowing down your cpu?
#4 - Any junk on your harddrive ?..
#5 - What video card do you have (if any)?
#6 - Are all cpu fans running smoothly?
#7 - A clean pc is a happy pc!
#8 - What OS are you running?

All i can think of for now.

Aslong as you have a Video Card it should be good..

I'll look into it further if you like

There seems to be no problem with your hardware thats for sure.. ;)

increasing the frame buffer size will NOT increase the performance...the only option you have would be overclocking, but I highly recommend not to do it on a notebook because the the increase of the temperature might even damage it.

hm, what games are you talking about btw? older games should run well, but you really can't expect newer FPS to run smoothly for example...

Alien told me before that the games "frooze" while in game, i sugested that the fans werent working correctly. Because as far as i know the games never "freeze" just like that if the GFX card isn't compatible or good enough, the game laggs or doesn't even start or has any other Graphics issue like black screen and such.

- rightclick the Windows desktop and choose Properties from the popup menu
- click the Settings tab and then click Advanced
- in the next dialog box, click the Troubleshoot tab

and there you can set the hardware acceleration.

but well, maybe it's really a problem with the fan, to check for temperature problems try Motherboard Monitor, you find it in the downloads...

don't panic, most likely just a problem with recognizing the sensors (maybe there aren't even any).
hmm...best run a benchmark like PCMark, if the system also freezes the I really might be a hardware problem and you should return the notebook and get a new one. you could also re-install XP and see if that fixes the problem, but I'm not sure if this might affect the warranty...if in doubt better return the notebook.

here's the link to PC Mark:
http://www.futuremark.com/download/pcmark05/

check your PM for some additional details...

well, if the benchmarks ran without freezing the system it's the g-card and it's very limited performance......like I said at the beginning: there's nothing you can do about it.... :?
notebooks are simply not gaming machines....if you want a notebook for gaming you have to spend a lot of money, and because of the immense power usage of high-end g-cards such notebooks are not really mobile because the batteries are empty within a short time.
I have a ATI x1600pro card which is lower middle class (but still 3 classes better than your notebook one), and even with that card I couldn't play C&C with high quality settings I guess...
