You might have to adjust your upload speed. I've found that to get higher download speeds I've had to restrict the upload speed. I've found that the sweet spot (for me anyway) is 20kb/s upload and that generally gets me the best download rate. However your optimal upload rate will be determined by your connection speed. Just play around with the upload speed and see what is best for you.
Before you do that, however, I would do a speed test. Take your upload speed and divide by 8 to get your total maximum upload rate. Then (if I remember correctly) multiply by .8 to get 80% of your maximum upload rate. You don't want to totally use up your upload rate as this will affect even web browsing. You might even be able to play a game while it is downloading.
Hope this helps.

Small note that if you tighten the upload speed to 9kbps or less that most clients will lower your download speed automaticly.Stavros wrote:You might have to adjust your upload speed. This is because ISPs throttling bit torrent speed. Your friends ISP may not be doing that and that is why his speed is much higher. Any way here is some thing that you may want to look at:
Windows XP Users (NOT Vista users, see next step for Vista users)
1. Go to this site - http://www.lvllord.de/
Click on Downloads.
2.
Right-click the link and click "Save Target As".
3.
Save it in your Desktop.
4.
5. Open the file and run the program located inside the archive, agreeing to the security warning.
Some text should scroll by in a MS-DOS window, after it ends, type C.
6.
Enter 100 for the number of concurrent half-open connections and press Enter.
7.
Type Y and the file should be patched. Cancel any Windows XP warnings that should appear, it is
8.
part of Microsoft's way of ensuring its files are not tampered with (the utility tempers them to
break the limit on purpose).
Windows Vista Users (NOT XP users, see above for XP users)
9. Go to this site - http://www.yaronmaor.net/repair.htm
10. Look for the item named - EventID4226Fix for Windows Vista (Line 2)
11. Right-click the link and click "Save Target As".
12. Save it in your Desktop.
13. Extract all contents of the file to a folder
14. If you are running 64-bit Vista, double click on InstallPatch64.bat. If you are running 32-Bit
Vista, double click on InstallPatch32.bat. Unsure? Run InstallPatch32.bat.
15. Some text should scroll by in a MS-DOS window, after it ends, type Y and press Enter.
16. After the restart notice appears, press any key and restart your PC.
A Bit Torrent Client - I recommend uTorrent. This guide uses uTorrent for the tutorial.
3.
4. And finally, some torrents to kick off the download. A sample torrent file will be provided later.

We will either find a way, or make one.
