Alright so as i awoke this morning i was asked to take a look at my moms laptop because it wont boot up.....
well i didnt get much of a chance to mess around with it....
but talking to her she said before it starting acting up that She was uninstalling a program called Nero...
its a cd/dvd burner
but as she was uninstalling it a blue screen popped up saying thing about a disk space error and asking here to do all this stuff which she did and restarted the comp like it asked.....
Well now Windows will not boot
None of the safe modes will boot so i can't really look around the comp in that manner
setup will open and i tried messing with the boot order
same results
restoring all defaults....
same results
so im kinda stumped as the windows logo and load bar will load for a bit
then a screen i cant make out pops up in a split second then im asked to chose between
Safe mode
safe mode with networking
safe mode with command prompt
boot windows with last good config
start windows normally
each safe mode gives me a pretty long list of files before returning
to the black screen with above choices
the windows options trys to boot windows flashes the afore mentions screen i can't make out the back to the black screen
i do have the option of booting from LAN though but not sure how i would go about doing that
anyways was wondering if anything could be done
and if so i could use a push in the right direction
or should i just reinstall windows
and its a HP laptop running Windows Xp
BSOD possibly?
F8 or F10 gets you the menu
choose
boot windows with last good config
(safe mode, or safe mode with command prompt would be my other choices)
Your mom should have a "Restore Disk" for the laptop. Laptops have their drivers, the Windows OS, and even tools to fix issues.
Depending on what she did, it might not be good,
If it asked her about uninstalling an important file - and crashed the OS badly (say the explorer.exe?) you can try to repair it without a complete reinstall of the OS, the laptop 'restore' disk can help.
You need the disk for the laptop.

You WILL need the disk that came with the laptop.now Windows will not boot

XP Help
Well the way I see it, and I could be wrong (I often am) the laptop is not formatted because you are still getting a windows boot option at start up, so that's helpful to a point. It does however leave a very large number of possible problems, most of them needing an appropriate windows disk to fix.
I understand that the disk drive does not work, and can assume that you do not have an external disk drive, so the USB drive option is a good bet provided the laptop can boot from USB. To make a USB bootable XP restore program use BartPE, which again requires an XP disk.
See the conundrum?
If you had an XP disk and a working drive you could just use the recovery console and everything would be gravy... that not being an option, you will have to either find another way, or make one of the current options work, and this begs some questions.
I guess there just isn't enough information for an applicable solution... but again, I could be wrong.
As a final note, I am unfamiliar with HP computers, if they have a recovery partition like some laptops do, you should be able to recover without a disk... wouldn't that be nice =)

yeah i'm sorry about the lack of info as i'm receiving it second hand =/
i haven't had too much time to look at the comp
and i feel i've failed to explain it aptly
basically when booting up it reaches this screen
loads for a few seconds
and gives me this screen (Boot Menu)
trying either windows option just gives me the load screen again then right back to the boot menu
all the safe mode options gives an output that looks similar to this
and then takes me back to the boot menu
and i never get a please wait it just load so far then stops, and returns to the boot menu
and the USB boot does seem to be my best bet ATM
and yeah i noticed this reading the article
i was hoping i could maybe set the USB up on my desktop
then use it to boot the laptop
