download the driver, put it in a folder....when you want to update the driver in the device manager you have the option to force the system to look for the driver in a location you can specify (per default it looks on A:/ and the CD drives, unmark this option and chose the location manually)....chose the folder where you have stored the driver and everything should be fine then...

Do you already have audio drivers in and want to install updated drivers or does your system not have audio drivers at all?

I ask because I've heard that installing updated drivers with older drivers installed can create problems.

Assuming you've got Windows XP and already have drivers you can uninstall by Device Manager: Start > [right click] My Computer > Manage > Device Manager. Then expand Sound, video and game controllers and rightclick the drivers (if you know what they are) and click uninstall. It would be wise to do this in Safe Mode.

If you've got Linux or another version of Windoze then maybe another staff member could help you.

[Edit] If you're updating you should follow B_B's advice first and then uninstall older drivers (if you have any) in Safe Mode.

Wait, when you try and update your drivers, you have a yellow question mark???

That usually means your drivers aren't installed in the first place.

Are you running Windows? If so, what version. XP has a maroon disk that comes with it, something like "Utilities" on it. Some shit. That has your drivers on it. You will have to install each one from the disk, it doesn't automatically install for you.

If you don't have the disk in particular, can you find someone who has it? Is your PC still under warranty, if so you can get new disks sent to you.

Otherwise, you may have to go to Device Manager ->Driver details and find out the brand and model of your drivers, then find and download them off the Internet yourself.

There is a RUN command that will tell you how to find all the info, but I forget what it is (as I have been off a Windows machine for almost a year now). Something with "X" in it, like xconfig or some shit.
Maybe someone here will remember what it is)

Good luck.

open the case and check what´s printed on the soundcard, if you´re a little lucky you´ll find manufacturer&model on there....
what PC is it? I mean what processor...so we can guess how old it is... if the soundcard is too old it may be that you can´t use in on XP (happened on my first PC which was originally for win95)....
