PartitionMagic is one of the quckest and easiest ways to partition your HDD, used it to put linux on my old computer. Took about less than 5 minutes.

Are you guys on crack? Try Partition Logic. It's a program that you burn to disc (.iso) and it boots up like a miniature operating system. Then you can resize, delete, create, and do alot more with it too. And, it's free.
Partition Logic is a free hard disk partitioning and data management tool. It can create, delete, format, defragment, resize, and move partitions and modify their attributes. It can copy entire hard disks from one to another.

Partition Logic is free software, based on the Visopsys operating system. It boots from a CD or floppy disk and runs as a standalone system, independent of your regular operating system. It is intended to become a free alternative to such commercial programs as Partition Magic, Drive Image, and Norton Ghost...
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It works on my machine...

CD-Rs are super cheap. I picked up a pack of about 30 (or 40 or 50, was a couple months ago) CD-Rs for around 10 USD.

However, DVD-Rs are a whole 'nother story.
