tv internet help

Post by Kirk »

Gear:
samsung aquos tv
linksys e3000 router with ww-drt

My TV has the ability to get online but it goes to the samsung website and all you can really do is get widgets on it. stupid. So i found this site that explains how to hack it and get normal internet but I dont understand it all http://off-the-clock.timothy-nicole-mar ... nics/Aquos

If you guys could help walk me through it Id appreciate it. I understand the principle of it all, just not the implementation of it all.

thanks

nice, looks pretty simple as its just involves a few settings, no hardware mods.
The whole basis of this hack seems to be fooling the TV into using a local HOST or DNS and spoofing Samsung's fixed IPs with a search engine IP. Once at google/Bing (instead of samsung) you are ready to type in whatever site you want to go to.

No flash or Adobe support, because the TV is a dummy terminal, with no HDD to upload apps to open flash or adobe stuff. The router/PC is just a webserver limited to passing information - so it cannot fix the lack of HDD space on the TV to allow Adobe or flash, or even other media players.

DD-WRT router method
you'll need to read:

http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/OpenDNS" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Static_DHCP" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Te ... mmand_Line" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
-----------------------------------------
Windows XP Only (and ?)

" if you configure Windows Internet Connection Sharing and IIS, you could redirect the DNS with the HOSTS file and accomplish the same thing.
You would have to manually configure the TV to use the XP computer as a gateway.

Check out:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308006" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://accs-net.com/hosts/how_to_use_hosts.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/docu ... x?mfr=true" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;"
(did not check the above links, refer to your current OS anyways.)

And of course you can use a PC/lappie with Nux or Nix.

Let us know how this goes. I would try doing all this on the router.
