Possible to run a computer of batteries?
Possible to run a computer of batteries?
I have seen those DC atx psus are there any in the range of +500W, I don't care for the costs, I am working on a custom project which will be a one time thing and if i can find a decent 500W dc atx psu i will be overjoyed

Re: Possible to run a computer of batteries?
why not using a car battery? would be cheaper, more portable, and most likely even more lightweight...
Re: Possible to run a computer of batteries?
Didn't think of a car battery, either way I don't think my plan for making a portable high end desktop is going to work out

Re: Possible to run a computer of batteries?
Well I was thinking of trying build a x79 based laptop with a 780m sli (I was going to to use a ipad retina screen for the monitor and a 3d printer to build the chassis, i could salvage a keyboard and touchpad from an laptop).
I thinking of using a dc to dc psu to use a high wattage battery to run the system at idle and then use a power brick during high load. But then ... I just realised I don't need a psu i could just connect the battery to the components .
I might be able to do this but whether or not its actually usable is completely different question. I know avadirect do a custom laptop with similar specs (http://www.avadirect.com/gaming-laptop- ... PRID=26190" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;), I might ask them if I could borrow their voodoo magic.
Or... I could just give them $3000 + Shipping + Customs...

Re: Possible to run a computer of batteries?
I would love to make you one for a small fea. Circuit board and all...but yes it can be done very simply.
Just Pm me with the details like how long you want it to run and what type of environment you would like to operate in, i.e. industry, space, water, Alaska? good luck.
