Graphics Card

Post by alien100 »

I have a motherboard that supports DDR up to 400mhz. I want to buy a DDR2 graphics card(XFX GeForce 6200A 256MB DDR2, AGP8X, Tv-Out, S-video) that runs on 400mhz RAMDAC clockspeed . and i am not sure if it will work.Will it?

it'll work...
the RAM of the graphics card has nothing to do with the one on he mobo, the mobo-one is for the CPU and the one on the graphics card for the GPU.
I use DDR 333 RAM on my mobo, and my x1600 pro has a DDR2 RAMDAC of 400mhz too for example...

As far as I recall, DDR2 (System RAM; ram that plugs into your motherboard) won't get a significant boost in performance over original DDR for AMD (Socket 939 and below). However, with the Conroe architecture (AMD's new CPU architecture), there may be a bigger boost in performance. Still, DDR2 was designed for Intel to get the leg up on AMD as far as RAM performance goes (which can be insignificant to a non-enthusaist).

To your question, the RAM that is on the vide card, called Video RAM (or VRAM) is there to be used specifically by your GPU (Graphics Processor Unit). If you want to get really technical you have 2-3 processors in your computer (your major CPU, your GPU, and the processor on your sound card [if you have a sound card]). The GPU and processor on the Sound Card (don't remember the shorthand; SPU?) are there to take the extra strain of graphics and/or sound processing off the CPU. So, it's what bad_brain said. It won't affect you, in fact, it'll help your system to run smoother.

Nice. Is it PCI-E? Something i've really wanted to try is bridging two PCI-E cards together, to form one "super" card, basically, both cards are put to work processing the same graphics... It's supposed to be really sweet...
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It works on my machine...

Hehe. You got it wrong Psuedo.

Imagine two nVidia 8800GTXs SLIed togeather...then again one would require a small fortune to afford two $600 (USD) video cards.

Last I heard, though, was that ATI's Cross-Fire was inferior to nVidia's SLI; however, I've been out of the hardware loop for close to six months.

Well, mint of course 8) check often on ebay, you can get ridiculeous prices on everything, you only have to check often the same stuff when you shop, so you can compare the deals and evaluate wheter if the deal is good or bad.
And Sometimes... You get lucky :D
