I have the same problem with my wireless card on my laptop. I'm not sure which type of wireless card you should get, but i bet a USB one would work best. I'm not sure though, a PCMCIA card might do just as well compatibility-wise.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It works on my machine...

here's a list of supported WLAN cards:
http://linux-wless.passys.nl/query_alles.php?

for support of WLAN tools best check the hompages of the tools, here's what the site of the Kismet-scanner says for example:

Code: Select all

Known supported cards: Atmel_USB, ACX100, ADMTek, Atheros, Cisco, Prism2,
       Orinoco, WSP100, Drone, wtapfile, pcapfile, wrt54g, ipw2100, rt2400,
       rt2500, rt8180, ipw2200, ipw2915, ipw3945, Broadcom 43xx

tx for the reply guys. I think ill just live with what i have now. Its kinda silly to buy a new card just to be able to use a certain tool. Plus i can live without wireless on Linux.
