virus on mp3 player

well my friend gave me an mp3 player to put some music on and everytime i plug it into my computer it crashes it now when i took it back i showed them and they said yeah whatever so i plugged it into the schools computer and the virus protection came up on it theres already 2 songs loaded on it but they say just just opened it when they gave me it and i cant figure out how to fix it cuz i just plug it in then bam it just crashes it

Here are the 2 things i would try

1. Plug it in while the computer's off, then boot normally or in safe mode.

2. Temporarily install linux on your hard drive, boot into linux, and scan the mp3 player (it's just like a usb memory stick, that plays music).
