Dad's Computer has died!

Post by Swan »

Ok....

So my dad was in the middle of some application burning a DVD, and he had to turn the power off, and because the program was taking so long to close he held down the power button.

Subsequently, he cant turn the machine on, the monitor is as black as night, and the computer keeps on beeping every 2 seconds....

Sorry this is so little info guys, but thats all i have been able to gather.

PS Think it might be a video card malfunction but not sure.

Another way to determine the faulty component is to remove all of the devices except the CPU and Ram off the motherboard. Then do a post; if 1 beep is successful add another device like the graphics card, if still1 beep add the next part and so on.

It is sometimes effective at finding a malfunction part or catching card creep, where a device is not plugged anymore correctly.
