I can not install GenII on my new computer.

Post by Lyecdevf »

I had build a new computer. I tested it by installing Mandriva linux on in. Every thing works fine.

So than I wanted to put some thing else on it instead. I want to use it as a honeypot. However, I had a problem when I tried to install the GenII honeynet on it. It told me that it can not locate the HD.

I do not know why it could not because there is not problem with the HD. I have installed mandriva on it and when I exited the GenII live CD I booted from the HD into my mandriva.

I know the CD is not fault either. I have sucessfully installed it before on my old computer.
We will either find a way, or make one.

Newer hardware + Older software = occasional disaster.

I'd suggest downloading an ISO of the latest version of the live CD and
seeing if that doesn't do better for you.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It works on my machine...

That is an option. :D I could also use the old computer for the honeypot.

I am going to do some more installations on the new computer with brand new linux distros and see what happens. Yesterday I have tried so but had problems with that too. 8O

umm....might sound a little stupid, but: have you checked the HDD was mounted?

example:

Code: Select all

mkdir /mnt/myhdd
mount /dev/hda0 /mnt/myhdd
in the 1st step you create the directory /mnt/myhdd, this is where the HDD will be mounted to, in the 2nd step you mount the HDD (hda0 in this example) into the myhdd directory.

to list the mounted drives:

Code: Select all

mount -l

It is not that kind of an installation. Just point and click.

I am not sure if this is going to help you out but I have tried to install Ubuntu 6.06.1. It game me some error in which it said that X system does not respond or some thing.

I wrote a part of it down and I took a snapshot. It says that:

X window system Version 7.0.0.

Release Date: 21 December 2005

X protocol Version 11, Revision ), Release 7.0

that's just a problem with the desktop environment, did the install failed or can you boot into textmode?
if yes what is the output for:

Code: Select all

startx
?
