Re: system show off thread
Got my new laptop today, came back to find the good doctor had given my laptop away so he replaced it with another, the first thing i hate about it is windows 8, the second the keys are quite small. Need to get linux on it ASAP. Other than that i have two more broken ones to repair to take back with me and now have 9 laptops to start a new class again soon.

Re: system show off thread
nice one...
yeah, small keys...I actually don't like notebook keyboards in general because they don't give a real feedback (at least the ones I had under my fingers so far)....but hey, maybe it's just because our fingers are polish sausage sized....
if you have some 60 spare bucks and don't need a lot of storage space a SSD would be a good investment....

Re: system show off thread
wohoo....I have a tablet now. not that I have been planning to get one, but a buddy got one as christmas gratification from his employer. he has an ipad already so he gave it to me for just 100 bucks, it's a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1...
I have used it a bit now and also customized it with some useful apps like openvpn and a SSH client, and I have to admit it's more fun and more comfy to use than I expected...

Re: system show off thread
aaand another update...now I am officially done with setting up my new workspace...
I re-arranged the wiring again because I have added the tablet to the table, and also a 4-port USB hub. now there are 3 hubs with 20 ports which are used to connect the main system, the server, the media player, 3 external HDDs, and a wireless surround headphone (I can switch it between the main system for gaming and the TV).
it was a lot of work, but I think it was worth it, now everything is networked and together with my new butt- and back-ergonomic office chair it can be finally called a professional workspace ...

I thought I was pretty bad ass with a lazyboy and laptop. But after awhile, you just miss the desktop. I still use two laptops while surfing, one plugged into the 42" TV and stereo with HDMI.

Re: system show off thread
well, I have a laptop too (a small netbook actually), and now also a tablet, and both are really fun to work with and very useful when travelling. but what I miss the most when working with them is a real fully sized keyboard, especially because mine has mechanical keys so I am used to have a pretty long keystroke with a very defined feedback....the mobile device keyboards are made for tender lady hands and not for return-key slamming macho hands..
Re: system show off thread
Nice bad_brain... I actually find tablets some what useful. Never thought I would.

Re: system show off thread
same here....I actually got mine only because my buddy asked me if I could use it, and I knew he would not ask for much. the plan was to only replace my Palm PDA with it, but I was instantly impressed with the nice screen quality and when I found a good working openvpn app it was quite clear I will use it for more than that...maboroshi wrote:Nice bad_brain... already got a 64 GB SD card now (max. the device is supporting).
