Pc issue [solved -thermal issue]

Post by Macross »

Iv'e noticed that when i whatch youtube videos my pc freezes randomly and then after restart theres no display. At first i hought that temperature gets high thats why it freezes but after monitoring gpu temperature i noticed that it doesn't get higher then 56c. What could be the problem? Oh and from now on games run at much lower fps :/

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT
Manufacturer: NVIDIA
Chip type: GeForce 6600 GT
DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC
Display Memory: 128.0 MB

hmm...ok, best get Process Explorer from the downloads and leave it open, keep an eye on the processes and check if there is one that uses a lot of CPU resources when the system freezes.
but best first check the CPU temperature in BIOS, just to make sure it's no thermal problem...

yeah, I suspect either a thermal problem with the CPU or a process going nuts....

looks fine, make sure to check it again right after the system froze.
10 years is usually no problem, my old P2 is still working fine...but the thermal grease usually hardens after a couple of years and lose its thermal conductivity (some more and some less)...

hm, is the PSU as old as the rest? especially the electrolytic capacitors in there don't live forever, they tend to dry out.... :-k

hm, well, stuff breaks sometimes, even when it's not that old....best would be to test it with another PSU.. :-k
but actually I begin to think it might be a mainboard problem, at least it's not very likely the system only freezes when the PSU has a failure... :?
checked for the processes yet?

If it's a software problem then I'd take bad_brain's suggestion and just monitor the processes for a while, see if anything strange happens.

Try to take out the video card, blow it off and reinsert it. Card Creep can be the issue.
