Basically i'm just swapping out mobo and cpu and as a result i am obligated to get new RAM as DDR2 wont work on the new mobo i believe.
In the future i intend to purchase a new gfx card and PSU at the same time and potentially a new case depending on circumstance. so i'll pretty much have a new computer at that stage.
Does this sound reasonable to you?
the most strenuous usage ill be putting it through is gaming and my sources tell me that i5 is just fine next to i7 when it comes to gaming.
I don't intend to run more than one graphics card though it crossed my mind to buy another 8800gt.
If you can see an unnecessary component which is costing more than it needs to (ie. a cheaper and equally effective component is available), I'd love to know about it.

hmm...I am not Intel fan, but looks fine for me....except for the PSU maybe, but 400W should still be enough..

Re: Upgrading mobo and cpu. thoughts/concerns?
AsRock isn't that bad. ok, the AsRock boards surely don't have that much features, but they are cheap and at least mine (former main system, now home server) works reliable since years already.
but yeah, if you can get a Gigabyte for the same price I would also recommend to get that one instead....Gigabyte simply rocks.

Re: Upgrading mobo and cpu. thoughts/concerns?
price is an object and asrock appears to offer the cheapest alternative for me. Forgive me my ignorance but i've never done much fiddling with my mobo so i can't see a reason which justifies spending the extra 50-100 for a higher end motherboard.
