Pentium D or Core2Duo
what is teh difference from a Pentium D at 3.00 GHz to a 2.6 Ghz Core 2 Duo??

the Pentium D was succeeded by the Core 2, so the microarchitecture is different...but well, that's kinda scientific stuff, so imo the main difference is the power usage, Core Duos need much less power and therefore produce much less heat. so it's much easier to build really silent systems. a buddy built a Core Duo system about 2 weeks ago (just to be able to play Gothic 3, what a weirdo ) and man, the system is really powerful and silent at the same time.
so if you have the choice get a Core Duo...and don't let the GHz-mania impress you, this was just a prestige-thing between AMD and Intel without ANY use for the end user...
