Password hacking... how is it done?

Post by syphus »

I really got interested in password hacking. All my friends say its easy but they cant do it. I just need some help on getting started. Maybe some info on good programs or trojans to use.

Hey...
Well, there are different ways, depends on what you mean: A encrypted password which you want to decrypt or some sort of login (porn? ).
For the first kind of passwords there are different programs like John the Ripper or Cain, both available in the dl-section. For the second kind (login) you can use bruteforcing programs like Brutus, but I wouldn´t recommend it, because such programs work with password dictionaries. It takes a REAL long time, and if the password isn´t in the dictionary it don´t work anyway. It´s also pretty common that you have a maximum number of tries to login, so your IP gets banned when you exeed the ammount of tries so you have to find a good proxy list, or maybe the whole account will be suspended and only the real owner can unlock it via his email-account.
So: If you just need to show your friends how to decrypt a local password use one of the named programs, but if you want to crack logins forget it, it´s not worth the time and very risky too if you don´t know exactly what you´re doing...

Hey I'm new to the site and to hacking.....I have a good background in html and xhtml or w/e but I haven't actually bothered with vb, java, or c++ yet. But staying on subject how do you configure the brute force to the login screen? Secondly where are good dictionaries? Preferably multi (letter and number)

well, password lists can be found by google...
but they usually suck, so best is to generate your own one, best with Linux:
