Where to find Knoppix Live CD download?

Post by Stavros »

I'm at this webpage: http://www.knoppix.org/ in the download section. Do I just download from the closest sponsor?

yeah, these are all mirrors, so the files are the same on every server.
the newest versions are 2CD ones, the older ones fit on 1 CD.
if you want a REAL small version, for booting from an USB stick for example, check here:
http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/
it´s based on Knoppix....

Now I'm very comfused.

I use the 4.0 . It's good but for my hardware, the cdburning didn't seems to be working.

Oh... and by the way, you can burn directly a .iso to a cd... and the md5 are there only to see at the end if the download wasn't corupt

I'm not worried about the burning. I have Nero (7, I think). Albeit I call this computer crappy (it's a 3 year old Dell with a Celeron, not Celeron D, 256 MB RAM, but it's more stable than the Opteron 146 with 2GB RAM which pains me). Anyways, thanks for the help. Downloading as I type. Good lord. I need more bandwidth. It'll take 6 hours for this to download. I can't imagine trying to download a 711 MB file over dial up.

don´t worry, shouldn´t be a problem with your hardware, I run my Linux server on a Pentium2 with 384mb, works fine.
and the DamnsmallLinux-distro should even run on a 386...

Yeah.. I just downloaded it yesterday night and I extract the .iso on my usb stick... Now I was wondering how you boot from it? I know the F8 stuff but the menu is:

1.Floppy
2. 1st hard drive
3. 2nd hard drive
4. cd/dvd

well, if there is no "boot from USB"- or "removable device"-option as Stavros said you can´t...your mainboard/BIOS must support it, but maybe the option is only available directly in the BIOS settings. if not maybe there´s a BIOS-update available, check the manufacturer´s site....

Hmm. Having a little trouble. I took the .ISO directly from the download and burned it withouth extracting or anything. My computer still booted up into Windows. I've tried changing the Boot Priority, but it's still stuck as 1) Removable 2) Hard Disk 3) CD Drive.

I've pressed ESC to get to "Pick Boot First Device" and I scroll over CD and hit Enter, but it still boots up to Windows.
