many used @list.ru or @mail.ru addresses to register, so it's the best to fully block registrations from those addresses.

And I do remember a user on a forum I made for my friend with the nicks of FranklinJelawat and alex2717... And spammed the board and had to take the boards down for the content... =\

99% of the bots used mail.ru or list.ru email addresses to register, since I blocked them no new spam comments or suspicious nick registrations appeared....

It was easy to understand. He wanted BB to give him the ip addresses of the offending users. This would allow him to compare the source of these spam and file a report.

Captain Crunch (aka John Draper) Has a study about spam. OR rather a method he uses to fight it. I will look for the link and post it here.

the IPs will not really help, most of them are located in the former USSR....no chance to file a lawsuit, at least not without spending a LOT of money for lawyers.
I have deleted all the comments already, but if you really want to I could look in an older database backup or in the stored IDS logs...but this will take a little because I will have to sort out the good "viewtopic.php" accesses from the spam ones.

but here's one of the worst spammers: 85.255.121.90
at least 1000 spam comments came from this IP, seems it's a static one because it was used for a longer period until I banned the user...might not be legal to post the IP here but well, I would love to be sued by the owner...I have all logs stored since suck-o moved to it's own server, a lot of evidence...

and my recommendation to avoid such spam is to blacklist @mail.ru and @list.ru emails either by the site settings or best (if possible) on server level either by the firewall or via the mailserver config....I blacklisted those hosts in the mailserver config AND banned the whole /16 IP range where the mail.ru/list.ru servers are located.

and rambo i think its just you.i spoke english the whole way.if you want i can speak some spanish and korean to if you would find that easier to understand. j/k
