Making the best out of the backtrack3 linux distro!

Post by Ghosted »

I like the hacking tools offered by the backtrack distro line but, I also like to play windows games until recently I was unable to merge the two and sadly spent a lot of time on windows....
1.Download Backtrack3Final Usb Edition:
http://remote-exploit.org/cgi-bin/fileg ... on=bt3-usb
2.Add video driver modules to the iso:
http://wiki.remote-exploit.org/index.ph ... :Mod_Linux
for ATI CARDS:http://www.offensive-security.com/modules/ati.lzm
for Nvidia CARDS:(was on the wiki for a few hours but it's gone now):
uploaded by me...you'll just have to trust me on this one lol:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=H644YUCY
3.Copy the files to a flash drive and make it bootable:
http://wiki.remote-exploit.org/index.ph ... :USB_Stick
4.Install:
http://forums.remote-exploit.org/showpo ... ostcount=1
The bootloader config is flawed here is a corrected version:
lba32
boot = /dev/sda
prompt
timeout=60
change-rules
reset
vga=791
image = /boot/vmlinuz
root = /dev/sda3
label = BT3F
5. Remember to execute graphically intense games with -opengl or you will experience epic lags!

To be honest I am unsure where you are going with this =/

The topic says creating an operating system, yet you are downloading a complete distro? =P

And all this about the drivers, why not download them on the manufacturers sites?

And if you want to game in Linux, Debian or Ubuntu might be a better choice if you add cedege or wine to it ^^

Also ATI cards are not very good for gaming when it comes to cedega

hm, for most "distro construction kits" I know you need a working Linux system to build the new OS on, don't know if this applies here... :-k

Originally I was going to post about the amount of packages in BackTrack and the number of authors, and the number of contributors to the Linux kernel, but the operating system is the core software on a computer which provides the interface between its hardware (processor, peripherals, etc.), its software, and the user.

This is what writing an operating system is like:

http://wiki.osdev.org/Bare_bones

What you're doing is configuring backtrack to your liking, which is fine, but you're not building an operating system.

@cats:
1)And all this about the drivers, why not download them on the manufacturers sites?
Nvidia distributes a self compiling binary installer which is precompiled by the backtrack team as nvidia.lzm now wasn't it nice of me to upload that xP!

2)And if you want to game in Linux, Debian or Ubuntu might be a better choice if you add cedege or wine to it ^^
Umm no, and I have cedega wine works just fine please read the article I said to use wine.

3)Also ATI cards are not very good for gaming when it comes to cedega
ok... ?

Should I use a word like creating I mean sheesh an OS these days is not just the kernel it's mostly software and so building(as in compiling makes perfect sense!)

The one nvidia gives out works perfectly fine, so why use another one? ^^

Also it is a common warning that manufacturers give out that "you should not download our stuff from another source", not saying the other one is bad though.

And tbh, Linux is awesome in many ways. But it doesn't beat windows in gaming, so sticking with that, is imo the better choice =)

Then about the ATI cards not being good for gaming. Wasn't that a GREAT fact? =D so that you won't have to spend any money on ATI cards if you are going to game in Linux =3

geh...anyway....too late here....going to bed xD

It wasn't the word building or compiling, an OS _is_ just the kernel.
