telnet in dos(command prompt)

I too don't know much about that either..but it's not that hard really...

Open Command prompt
Type telnet
Type o http://www.thesite.com/ :portnumber

The "o" is the command for telnet to connect
The site is the destination you want to connect to
The portnumber is the specific port on the destination site you wish to enter it by.

A cool part of telnetting is the MUD's...you know..those all-text RPGs
An example:
type telnet into command prompt
type:
o www.shadow-lands.com/:4000
{{{{Ok, This^^^ doesn't seem to work...I don't know why since it's worked for me before...}}}}

orr...click this:
telnet://www.shadow-lands.com:4000

Well, a blank screen don´t means you´re connected, you normally get a response from the server like this one:

Um, I haven´t checked them all, but some may sure be the same style as Necrix´s link. Telnet is pretty dead because it´s very unsafe, so you won´t find much places to telnet any more. SSH took place for telnet, and it works with (different from telnet) encryption. But SSH-clients like Putty still support telnet. Best way to learn about it is to get a shell account somewhere and practice....

Interesting. I got on to look around. Does it work on dial-up speeds? Telnet seems out dated, but it would be cool to mess around with.

You could also use putty. It is better especially for some one using windows.

Other wise there are plenty of good tutorials on the web. Just google it!
