Because of ISP throttling, you will only be able to get so much bandwidth from an ISP. The only hacker trick I know of, is to set up two or more modems - each modem connected to a different ISP. You code an app to use all the modems to access one file - say a 500mb file - the modems will work together to transfer that large file by the bandwidth allowed by each ISP - say each allows you upto 128kbps - now you can multiply that by two or more. There are apps already outthere to assemble your file with out duplicating or overwriting the transfer of the others - sort of like a FTP "resume". The problem with those apps, is they still use one ISP connection to do the multiple transfer thing. You'll need to find a way to string several modems connected to various ISPs to do one task.

Those in Network Neutrality groups have tried hacking cable modems to steal bandwidth - but it is detected and shut down. Its controlled at the server side, so not much you can do.
The multiple modem trick works because it still follows the rules allowed by ISPs, and uses legal bandwidth to assemble the file faster. Kabby is on the right path, perhaps he can explain..
