Look at second 24, or so.

Notice that the line that goes from the lower left corner to the upper right corner is strangely 'thick'.

That actually forms a 4-sided polygon whose name I can't remember, with the area of one. It's just much, much longer than it is high, so it seems like it really 'isn't there'.

Well, i don't understand how a really long and thick line can create an extra square.

Take that rhombus, lay it on its side and flatten it, so that it's incredibly small in height, but incredibly long in length.
