I love picking locks! I find it very peacefull to just sit there and feel for the pins. I really need to get myself a real set of picks though. I've been using hair pins bent into shape. lol How long have you been doing it?

You can learn lockpicking as a part of a college course - security administration.
They had us pick locks so we know why some were better than others.

Take floodies example - the Master padlock and a cheap imitation.
The reason the cheaper lock is easier to pick - it has lower manufacturing tolerance in the pins. The lower tolerance allows for more play in the pins and gaps in the tumbler.

Higher spec locks require more exact pin placements to release. Some even use multiple segmented pins, to defeat the torsion effect with your torsion bar..

Remember tumblers are made of softer metal for easier machining - you can simply use a drill and drill out the tumbler and watch the pins fall out!

I have looked for the PXS-14 too because I like the included grips, but the shop I use don't have it. but some good stuff to find there, and for european customers it's maybe the best choice because you can pay via Paypal and they deliver really fast:

Shomer-tec, another one of my fave sites - I never tried the electronic nausea..

BB- nice kit - you will have some extra picks - so try fixing one on a motor to create a electronic lockpick. It just works on high freq viberation to bump the pins, you could be 'inside' in mere seconds.

Just went to my lakehouse... My girlfriend locked me out of the house and I could got in with simply my hook pick and a tension wrench.

nope, haven't watched them yet, I have read about the basics in the "MIT guide to lockpicking"...and it seemed all really logic to me so I simply started to see if it works..

ok, the locks I picked are surely just beginner ones, but to start with ones that are too hard would be simply frustrating anyway....but hey, I can pick the 1-bolt lock within 10 secs now, and for the harder one I need 2-3 minutes... I guess I could be even faster if I would have some device where I could attach the locks to while picking, sometimes the 3rd hand is missing a little...
but I have to admit it's really fun, and I think about buying one of these:
