Peace everyone -
My primary firewall can cannot access ASDM. My backup can access ASDM, but for some reason I'm stumped. this is driving me crazy..... <----literally.
We had a tech guy come into our department and change the ip addresses on the firewall so that they pointed to our new ISP.
i cant get the proper commands enabled/disabled for ASDM.
i have ASA/Cisco 5510 pix7.24 and asdm 5.24
i think that the asdm is not setup to my host machine properly. I am only 2 days into using cisco equipment and wanted to know if there are any ideas that i could try.
i also wanted to backup my firewall before making changes and i have 2 files in the directory that can successfully get backed up through tftp, and 1 file that cannot. it is a "crypto_archive" file. Anybody know exactly what that is? I cant find good definitions on it and just want it to be copied with the other files.
Is backing up my ASDM configuration on my working firewall and uploading to the non working firewall/ASDM an option?
Just curious if anyone else had some experience.
Any help would be appreciated!!!
PEACE
Sincerely,
sun7
CISCO ASA Firewall - Can't get ASDM for my Firewall
Re: CISCO ASA Firewall - Can't get ASDM for my Firewall
am CCNA 3 certified but i can't answer this because of my lack of knowledge with pix they didn't teach me it yet and am not willing to learn it by myself because of my time as totally full
but try this anyway http://www.chicagotech.net/netforums/viewtopic.php?t=89
and about backing up the working conf and restoring them to the non working firewall could be a little bit risky due to the difference of models witch probably lead to difference in the IOS... not mentioning the difference in the feature of each firewall
i don't recommend it

There is an UNEQUAL amount of good and bad in most things, the trick is to work out the ratio and act accordingly. "The Jester"
Re: CISCO ASA Firewall - Can't get ASDM for my Firewall
Peace and thanks. I dont know about the SDM and the difference between that on a router and the ASDM on a firewall that I am looking for.
My backup router is the same as the primary router. The backup can access asdm fine. I wanted to copy the asdm file on the Firewall of the backup to the primary and see if that fixes my issue.
I also just need to understand the basic steps of disabling all the ASDM functions and starting from the beginning on my firewall b/c I am not sure what changes the technician made that stopped me from accessing it.
Any assistance would be great. thanks

Re: CISCO ASA Firewall - Can't get ASDM for my Firewall
I got it. just so that you know, I went into CLI (command line interface) and typed...
Routername(Config)# asdm image flash:/asdm.bin.
Routername(Config)# http server enable.
thats it!
[Routername = router name]
[Config = configuration mode]
[asdm = Gui interface for Cisco firewall. I had to type "asdm-524.bin" that is the software version of asdm]
