Buying internal HDD

Post by z3r0aCc3Ss »

I am planning to buy WD internal 1 TB HDD, with 3 yrs warranty.
Its for $67 approx. Is it worth buying?

Code: Select all

Caviar Green

Also, which HDD should I buy? I wanna go for 1 TB storage only... My budget is up to $70 max.

you can't go wrong with WD, for storage purposes where you don't really need the last bit of performance the Caviar Green series would fit good because it's very silent.
if you want an alternative to WD check out Seagate ones, I can recommend them, check this one as a single drive:

but if you have the possibility to set up a RAID0 get 2 of those, it's a really nice offer:

you would save money and even get a better performance... :)

Ok. Now, I have bought WD Caviar Green 1 TB, 64MB Cache HDD.
But my system is not recognizing it.
What to do now? After starting my computer, I got "new hardware found" pop-up and it installed it properly. But its not appearing.

start->diskmgmt.msc
mark the drive as "active" there and it should appear...

Yup thanks.
What will happen if I do it as Active partition? Currently it is Healthy (Primary Partition).
Also, what is Convert to Dynamic Disc?

um, "active partition"? do you have multiple partitions on the HDD? that way you can set a partition as active and leave another one (on the same disk) inactive... :-k
dynamic disks have just a few more features, like spanned partitions (you can set up partitions which spans across multiple HDDs), also create mirrored partitions on the same HDD (not to be confused with RAID), etc. and I think you can manage partitions on a logical volume without having to reboot afterwards.
actually there is no need to change anything there manually, once you set up a partition on a primary volume it become automatically a logical volume. just if you want to set up a spanned partition, but that would not really make sense for a storage drive for backups, etc.
