monitoring tool

Greetings,
i am searching for a client/server the server can display the clients and see what applications are running on it. just this simple task and maybe kill the running task.
have any came across such thing?

Ooops should have not forgot that... OS: windows xp/vista/7
i need it for a school lab, small lan made off 15 pc's, the teacher should be able to monitor the activities on each pc. i could code such tool but not on such a short notice.

is proRAT a good idea :P ??

better stick with "official" programs that are actively developed, have a look at TightVNC:

Tried it, not exactly what i want.... not so practical, i looking for something with a small interface where the LAN hosts are displayed and info can viewed from there...

well, such tools exist, but sadly I am only aware of Linux ones that are used for server monitoring...and those are usually way too extensive too.

what about installing a SSH server on each box and using the on-board tools like netstat from the client? would be very lightweight.
