Wireless router buying help

Post by z3r0aCc3Ss »

My budget is around $140. I want to buy a good wireless router.
Which one you will suggest?

My preference is Cisco.

I would buy a small computer with 2 good network cards/chips, and then build my own, if I were you (I plan on doing it someday).
Although that budget may be troublesome then.

I have a Cisco E4200 which is pretty okay, except for some vulnerabilities in the past I haven't had any issues with it so far, and had it for a few years already now.

hm, does it need to have a modem included? if yes I made good experiences with Netgear, using the DG834 since years (it's still available).

Yes, I want with modem in-built.
Is Cisco a good choice for that? I want the router to be more customizable, and I think Cisco routers are that capable. I had seen that in CCNA training video of Lynda.com.

hm, I have never used a Cisco/Linksys router, so I can not really give a review....all I can say is that I am satisfied with my Netgear one.
what special configuration options are you looking for? I mean, there is no real difference between the "better models" of the big brands feature-wise....if you need exotic/extensive features like a highly configurable forwarding management (with options like packet flags for example) you would not find it in that price category, no matter from what manufacturer. the best option would be a cheap/spare computer (can be remotely managed via shell) running Linux with a bunch of NICs then, even a pentium 2 would be good enough for that.
