dnschef problem

Post by l0ngb1t »

i was playing around with dnschef and i am facing a problem.
https://thesprawl.org/projects/dnschef/

i am running dnschef on linux vm connected to my lan, in the dnschef.ini i have set *.cnn.com=SOME_IP (i don't know why cnn came to my mind...)
and i have run it, i can see the query's that my pc is making... but when i go to cnn.com i still get the original page instead of the one i've set, however if i ping cnn.com i get the fake ip and in the dnschef output i can that it's replying with the fake ip but i'm not sure how's the browser behaving.

any ideas?

edit- SOLVED: it seems that it will work only if you provide a private ip, if you fake it to a public ip dnschef will just ignore it or something, maybe it is coded like that to prevent being used for bad things.
There is an UNEQUAL amount of good and bad in most things, the trick is to work out the ratio and act accordingly. "The Jester"
