Methods of long term storage of sensitive data

Post by reparto_temp »

This could go under crypto-currencies but I think a general discussion would be more interesting. What methods are there for storing sensitive data over long term whilst ensuring that the data cannot be read by unauthorised individuals and that access to the data is not lost at any point?

Here are some common methods:

1.Paper copies
Unless you use plastic paper or if you laminate the paper then its likely that the ink and paper will degrade over time...
Its difficult to store paper securely, its easier to break a safe than it is to break encryption

2.Encrypted digital copies
Can be copied via malware or theft of hardware
Thieves can just sit and wait for hardware that can bruteforce the encryption
Updating the encryption method is useless if a copy has already been stolen

Here is an unconventional method:

Inserting usb drive into body:
Like how RFID tags are put into pets, you could put some flash chips in your body.
Possible issues with rejection and infection...
Hard to steal (just don't tell people you have important stuff inside of that can only be retrieved by cutting you up)
Long life (read cycles don't affect flash)

Anyone have any other ideas?

:-k well you can do like what most politicians in power do, they don't have one laptop , they have two laptops and one of them never connects to internet or used to any other kind of activity except storage , so the only problem yet is the good place to hide it and here the most important part is " loose lips, sink ships" (don't tell anyone where u put it and none will find it)
