Laptop buying help

Post by z3r0aCc3Ss »

Hello there,

Happy new year to all the staff members and users.

I'm planning to buy a laptop, for the first time, and it's not that I'm switching to laptop from desktop, but it's a need of something.

I have shortlisted some models, but very confused about which one to buy:
1) Dell Z561503SIN9G 7560
Intel i7 7500U @ 2.7
8 GB DDR4 @ 2400
4 MB cache
GeForce GTX 940MX 4 GB DDR5
1 TB 5400 RPM HDD
128 GB SSD
Battery life 2-3 hours approx

2) HP Notebook AU118TX
Intel i7 7500U @ 2.7
8 GB DDR4 @ 2133
4 MB cache
GeForce GTX 940MX 4 GB DDR3
1 TB 5400 RPM HDD
Battery life 3-4 hours approx (somewhere they say it's 7 hours on moderate usage)

3) Lenovo Z51-70 80K600VVIN
Intel i7 5500U @ 2.4
8 GB DDR3L @ 1600
AMD Radeon TROPO XT2 4 GB DDR3
1 TB 5400 RPM HDD
Battery life 6 hours approx

4) Dell 5567 (Not much info available)
Intel i7 7500U @ 2.5
8 GB DDR3L
AMD Radeon
1 TB 5400 RPM HDD
Battery life 7 hours approx

5) Asus R510JX-DM230T
Intel i7 4720HQ @ 2.6
8 GB DDR3L
GeForce GTX 950M 2 GB DDR3
1 TB 5400 RPM HDD
Battery life 4 hours approx

6) HP 15-AY078TX
Intel i7 6500U @ 2.5
8GB DDR4
AMD Radeon R7 M440 4GB
1 TB 5400 RPM HDD
Battery life 4 hours approx

My primary usage is not gaming. For gaming, I've built up my beast. Usage is primarily for work related things, and heaviest software that could be run on it would be Photoshop. And let's say Photoshop, excel, and word would be open at any given point in time.
Performance shouldn't suffer. That's my aim, but looking at the 1st option (Dell 7560), it'll hardly last for 2-3 hours. It kills the primary purpose of the laptop, i.e., mobility (you can't relay on power plugs everywhere).

Can anyone suggest me which one to go for? Or do you have any better in your mind? Please suggest.

hm, the first one would be the best performance-wise, simply because it has a SSD....loading Photoshop with a 5400rpm mechanical drive is a pain in the rear and takes ages, actually the whole system is slow with such drives and SSD drives grant an even bigger performance boost than on a desktop system (where 7200rpm mechanical drives are used).
what's a bit strange is that the battery runtimes of #1 and #2 are so different, even with same CPU and graphics. :-s

if #6 is cheaper than #1 you might want to get that one and spend the saved money for a SSD, the runtime should be even longer then!
