I have been thinking about this a lot as forums are different to websites, not all but most. Some like Quora, Wiki How To etc have been putting a structure in place for a while now. One place it would work in this forum is in the tutorials section for example. It will work on all the public areas if we structure everything properly.

I am not talking about website structure as that's is obviously working great, what I am referring to is structured data and the written content. The reason for the results being so high in Google is because the category structure is great. Similar to how Amazon, Etsy, all pull their products in Google is by having a good website structure which pulls in the meta data naturally.

Now with the use of a plugin for structured data, the one I use is Schema & Structured Data for WP & AMPas you can manually set how the Structured data is shown and to which pages so each can either be targeted as a whole or a video, or a business, or a recipe, a how to the list is endless.

Once the plugin is set correctly and people publish the post titles correctly etc then this will help to pull the results to the search engines. So once you have the first page set up in a certain category for example.

Something like this..

Choose Structured Data drop down business/person
Business

Choose Target
How To's

Where do you want it to show? Page/post/product/product category etc
Category Tutorial

Titles.
How To .... (FIXED)

It has actually been shown that just having FIXED can improve CTR by a huge amount.

Once this has all been set up it will automatically pull all the structured data from all the posts in this section.

Pretty Nifty plugin for the free version. I am just going to get it started with the podcasts
