how to apply a patch in linux

i am getting an error in linux when trying to crack a wep. i get stuck on a -1 channel even though i tell it to go to channel 1. i have been googling the error and i guess i am suppose to apply a patch to help fix it.

1} how do i apply this patch http://patches.aircrack-ng.org/channel- ... axim.patch

2} if it screws stuff up, how do i remove it?
