My Tron Costume
My Tron Costume
So I decided to make a Tron costume.
I'm not finished with it yet, so I'll just post my progress so far.
There are many routes to go to do this, but I decided to buy a costume and mod it with EL wire.
EL Wire:
http://www.instructables.com/id/how-to- ... r-garment/
First thing's first. This costume is one of those full-suit types. This means that in order to use the restroom you have to undo the back and undress half-way. Last year I wore a Morphsuit for Halloween....it was terrible.
So, I made an opening in the crotch area by undoing the thread and attaching Velcro to it.
*thumbs up to easy access*
Second, also via my experience with the Morphsuit, I realize the necessity of pockets. It's tough going to a bar w/o a pocket to hold things..or anywhere I suppose.
I also added a zipper to the back of the suit in place of the tiny, useless Velcro circles.
Using the link for sewing EL wire I posted above, I attached the wire to the suit using fishing line.
I'll have more pictures later as I go.
Notes:
Don't space the stitches too far apart. For stretchy fabric like this, the wire wants to come away from it.
Plan the wire out using string first.
Plans:
*I have a Deluxe Sam Flynn identity disc I'm modding with new LEDs.
*I'll be making a harness for the disc and attaching a belt clip to the wire's power inverter. This'll probably be an old belt worn around my chest with something added that extends through the back of the costume and connects to the harness I make.
*I might be making a light-cycle baton. I'm prioritizing here...I'm not rich and time's not infinite. lol.
*I'll be adding a slit in the side so that I can still wear my Blackberry holder.
*No plans for face mask or helmet. The decision's made, leave me alone lol.
*Cutting costume gloves to be Tron-esque.
*Maybe painting some old shoes or finding cheap black shoes.
EL supplies bought from NeonString:
http://www.neonstring.com/
Materials:
Tron suit
22' of EL Wire, 2.6mm Aqua - $33
Sound Activated Driver 9-12v DC - $12.00
8 AA Battery Cage - $2.00
12lb Test Fishing Line
Velcro strips
Zipper
Fabric for Pocket
Black thread
Soldering supplies
Misc. quick-connect and splitters to attach to EL Wire
Black heat shrink tubing
Questions and comments encouraged!

Re: My Tron Costume
sweet! I also would like to see the costume "in action"....
Re: My Tron Costume
Well, due to procrastination, I wasn't able to modify and attach the disc in time for last night. I'll finish the costume, though here's how it was last night:
It got me alot of attention at the bar, especially since I had it set to blink to the music all night.
I was the 2nd runner up for the costume contest and almost won $150 bar tab.
It was ok, though, a friend of mine won and people were telling me I should've won.
Unfortunately, the costume didn't get me a girl lol...not even that cute Rubiks cube girl.
It's pretty bad ass, though, to be a walking light-show.
Comments like "badass tron costume" and someone told my friend "there are alot of tough costumes to beat this year. I mean, did you see that guy with the tron costume? Who can beat that?"

Re: My Tron Costume
wow, really sweet man....that was definitely a load of work...
oh, and I bet you can get lots of girls with that costume, simply tell them you are running out of power and ask them if you can use their socket. oook...maybe better not....
and make sure to post a pic when you have attached the disc...

When I do get a bike, I might considering getting one of these:

I'm lying...I'll probably only dream of it. lol.

Re: My Tron Costume
That's soo cool!
I played Deus Ex for the first time at a local LAN center not long ago. It's amazing! I jumped a few times playing it lol. It's one of those games that's got you turning at every corner for sure...with all of those creepy sounds.
I haven't gone past the part with the mech, though. It's pay-per-hour there.
