Is dentist a doctor?

Post by z3r0aCc3Ss »

Can dentists be termed as doctors? They are just there to fix teeth. IMO, they are not f****** doctors, they just exaggerate about being a doctor because of the medical line they are into.

Dentists are dentists, here they aren't referred to as doctors.

Depends on what three letters come after the dentist name on the placard out front of the office.

To be a doctor you need a doctorate, which is a level of education rather then a job. A PhD for example is a doctorate, but there are a lot of them.

Doctorates are usually achieved by 2 to 4 years of specialized education in a specific field, DPT for example is a doctorate in physical therapy, and someone who holds the degree is doctor... even though all they do is physical therapy.

DMD and DDS are general dentistry doctorates, which are needed to practice in America at least. Orthodontist are specialized dentist that require even further specialized education, and an additional degree... which brings some more letters to the end of a name.

So maybe your dentist is a doctor... and maybe not, but doctor in this case is similar to a professor at a college having a PhD, technically a doctor but in a very shallow field of doctoral education.

Dentistry is termed "the medicine of the mouth" it is the treatment, alleviation and prevention of oral disease. Dentists typically train for 4-6 years. In some cases, it is harder to become a dentist due to the rigorous selection procedures.

Dentists are doctors in all but name.

Not really, I just don't like some people bragging about being a doctor, though they have just BDS degree.
IMO, to be called dentist as a doctor, he must possess MD after the DDS/BDS degree.

So, lets say, every doctor can be termed as dentist, depending on his education, but every dentist cannot always be termed as a doctor.

A doctor is anyone who has earned a phd.

My boss is a doctor yet all he knows is science. He would not preform open heart surgery but he is still a doctor. *thumb*

Holy shit. After my first root canal I made damn sure I would never be in that situation again.

Out of interest do you get a lot of bleeding during brushing? Do you floss?

Many people don't floss and that's why they get cavities, because brushing alone does not clean between the teeth. Also general tips are to cut out soda and candy out of your diet. But if you must eat them, eat a little of them and do it at meals where they cause less damage.

Maybe you have an unscrupulous dentist who did more work than necessary just for money.. I don't know.

Dentist is very good. But it seems there is problem in my teeth only... Sometimes, I bleed while brushing... :(
I brush regularly, twice a day. Wash my mouth after every meal/snack.
I even don't eat chocolates that much... Neither do I take any cold beverages so frequently. Just once in a month.
Flossing??? I don't do that. Never get time...
