norton

Post by ilkjester »

Ok so there is no software forum and it said to place any other questions that don't fit in the other catagories here. Maybe you could make or if enough people would like one. But my norton internet security 2005 antispyware editon is about to expire and i was gonna renew it soon. But ive been hearing alot of bad stuff on norton lately. And hearing that it don't even work all that well. Should I spend my money elsewhere.

Why spend your money when you can get a free antivirus that is most likely better? Try AVG antivirus, i use it and haven't had many problems with it. Another good one that you do have to pay for is kaspersky, but it's kinda annoying, it really invades your computer, heh. Anyway, you don't really have to worry about viruses much if you don't go around being stupid and visiting a bunch of script kiddy sites, etc. Some 'porn' sites have them too, so you should use a different browser than Internet Exporer, such as firefox. Just be careful what you do and your computer will last a lot longer.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It works on my machine...

I recommend Kerio Personal Firewall.
It's really good and free.

It gets a little annoying at first, because it asks you wether or not to let some things run..but it's worth the temporary inconvenience.

I'd really reccommened at least using Spybot along with Ad-Aware. It's not uncommon for me to not pick up anything with Adaware and get 20-something hits with Spybot.

As for AV, I use AVG currently. Rarely scan (but keep it updated) and I haven't hit anything thus far.

8) Don't forget, all the tools in the world mean nothing if you don't know what is going on. Understanding how computers work, how operating systems work, and TCP/IP means that you know what you are doing when you click on a button. I think too many users have no idea how their security app works, let alone understand basics like http, email svc, or the seven layers of a network.

When you begin to learn all the little things that make up the big things, you can begin to learn that there is no such thing as an unimportant little thing. 8)
