social networks - no Sir/Ma'am, not impressed.

Post by bad_brain »

ever wondered why and how so many people are "so famous" on silly sites like FB, Twatter, and the other stupid sites? well...it's so easy to cheat, that's why. just for fun I created a fake twitter profile and see how far I can get with 18 silly posts where I do nothing but linking to other fake accounts. first I followed 1200 totally random people, and I got about 50 followers back.

but then...well, see for yourself:

pretty famous already, huh?

and that's what all those "superfamous" people, no matter what social network, do too: buying followers. I got them through an exchange site where you can make points by liking or sharing stuff, with those points you can buy the same back for your sites/accounts. so the next time keep that in mind before being impressed...

P.S. if anonye is interested: addmefast[dot]com is one of those sites.

I think we have a new realm to hacking - social networks.
It takes a combination of social engineering and knowledge of how the media is shared across the networks.

social networks are fun! well...not the kind of "fun" average people think about of course.
I have always been into SE, because it's some kind of direct battle against one or multiple opponents...and it's a great training for the brain. it's not about "telling lies" like some people think, it's about slipping into different personalities and then see how far you can push it. you learn a lot about yourself and others that way, and that way it has personal benefits in real life.

the thing I really hate about social networks is the fact that 90% of the people on there are acting...really bad. when I want to see bad acting I watch the latest Hollywood crap....but in real life (yes, I count social networks to "real life") it makes a contest out of it for me.

I like to watch/read what other "bad actors" post on social networks, makes my crappy life a little better. :D
Which is kinda sad now that I think about it :(

why? you read it, have a laugh and shake your head...and then you keep on with your real life while they are still trapped in their fake ones.

Was a half-assed joke. But anyways, life of others shouldn't affect our own.

same here, people take their social life online so serious sometimes lol.

People have patterns or typical behavior and it is getting easier to track people online and find details on them.

I make it an ethical point not to dox people I care about, like core members, etc.

yep! and the service can also be tricked....when making points by following a twitter account for example simply unfollow them all again afterwards. then you can make new points by following them again...
with my little "private project" (you know what I mean) I have been spamming a lot of accounts to google, all with the same name, learned what gives the best results that way:

- twitter (took a while, and needed a bunch of followers, but then even #1 sometimes)
- youtube (got on the first result page after 2 hours!)
- own domain
- quora
- wordpress.com
- blogger
- flickr
- 500px

forget g+, google is not pushing it anymore, takes ages to show up and then still gets bad ranking, linkedin also sucks. when spamming comments I got the best results on the CNN and LA Times sites....of course you shouldn't do it too obvious there.
