Certification help needed

Post by z3r0aCc3Ss »

I want to do some strong certification course.
Can anyone suggest such a course which can benefit me in the long run (even after 1-2 years)?
I have interest in networking, so, was thinking of Cisco certification. Even what about CEH?
How about Microsoft Technical Associate (MTA) course?
I don't want to do databases as of now...

Personally, I think that certification is bullshit ^^

You should just learn a lot of stuff the usual way, go to school to get the graders, study at home to get most of the knowledge.
Then when you need a job, you show them your skills, instead of flashing some cert in their faces.

CEH, yeah, just no.

But yeah, that's just my opinion :)

@cats, I have done my grades, in fact, double grades.
Now, its the time, when I will be facing real industry world in the coming 4-5 months.
And, people get good jobs based on certifications and degrees and not by skills, at least in the country where I live in. Or at least, such people get good opportunities.
So, I think certification is needed just to get started...

So if you attach an interesting article you wrote, or a very complexed program, together with your job application, it doesn't help? : /

cats has point, but if certifications helps you get a job go for it, you may learn alot along the way especially if you are a lazy person :P

if you decided to go for CISCO i can help with that.
after you CCNA go for cisco voip course and even CCNP if you can
you can learn more here than you would in CEH :P
CISA and LPT are good if you are into security.

No. Recruitment people will throw such paper in the dustbin. They don't want (never want) to read through such things. They just see what all is there in the resume (CV). That's it.
If they find the job application interesting, then this step (which you are saying about writing code or article) comes. So, at first place, all achievements or educational things come...

always worth a look: LPIC. most valuable certificate imo, for job perspectives (ok, not if you want to go into MS administration ^^) and also for your general IT knowledge....with an LPIC all other certificates are much easier because you "know how things work".

CEH: forget it....someone bragging about having that kind of pseudo-certificate is not taken serious by me, it's actually a certificate for being an IT illiterate.

Well, I have decided to go for CCNA (composite), as of now, as I find it easier. Got all the stuff online :)
Let's see how it works out.

don't forget that you can get cert in various OS, I have cert in Novell 4.11/5.0, Managewise 2.6, AS400/RPG400 etc and Microsoft Advance Server 2k - I know other people where hired just for having an Oracle db cert - it all depends what companies want for their networks.

your CCNA course will overview all Operating systems, but the above certs will prove you know those OS inside and out. CCNA is a good start - as you might find where you want to go - a specific OS, maybe admin networks, or just build them. While i can build and admin networks, I prefer not to - I do not like to stay in one job for long.
