SSL and shared hosting help needed

Post by z3r0aCc3Ss »

I have a shared hosting plan. I want to install SSL certificate on my server. I got one for trial.
When I tried to install it, it gave me some error (which I don't remember, but it was unsuccessful, that's all I know, :P)
When I contacted my host about it, they said that I need a static IP. It can't be installed on a shared IP.
Is there any alternative to my problem? Can I get SSL certificate on my website even if I am on shared hosting?

Do you have a registered domain name for your server?

Because that would do the trick :)

Yea, obviously. I do. But can't tell you the URL, coz its a shameful URL... Embarrassing for me... :P [-X :D
I am using JustHost for hosting services. And using Comodo 90-day free trial SSL certificate.
But, not getting proper way to install it. :(

Well, that's not obvious to everyone

Depends if your host supports it, and are willing to help you with it.
But from their answer I guess not ^^

Normally this is how you would install a certificate on an apache server (if that is what they use), but you can't do that by yourself.

Code: Select all

b_b might have run into this issue before, so maybe he has a better answer :)

phew...my experience with IIS is limited to "been forced to work 3 days with it and hated it", so I can not really help with that. what I can do though is to offer you some hosting on one of my Linux servers and a dedicated IP address.

Depends on the IIS version, but this should shed some light on it

Code: Select all

I recommend b_b's suggestion instead though.
