I have Sony Vaio PCG 6XGP laptop. As soon as I turn it on, temperature goes up to 65 C. And due to overheating, I cannot perform any heavy applications. Don't know what's the problem.
Earlier it had Windows Vista, and now I installed Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit.
Processor is Core2Duo 2.4 GHz and 2 GB RAM.
In any case, I do not want to dispose it as it has sexy keyboard and good looks.
Can anyone help me on this?
Also, its optical drive comes out automatically, . WTF man...

hm, if it happens that fast it points to a dead fan, have you taken a look into BIOS to see if there's a display for the fan(s) RPM? if fans are working well it can also be simply a lot of dust clogging the airflow.

Well, I am not actually a laptop man. I am more of a desktop man. I personally, never liked any laptop.
Fans are proper. I have checked it. So, it might be some clogging, as you said...

could also be old thermal compound that turned bad, but as you I am also no lappy dude, so I can not really say how it looks inside in context with CPU cooling...
so the best way is to clean everything first, you shouldn't have to disassemble the whole lappy for that at least..

Re: Sony Vaio heating issue
It's already been mentioned, but the only time I've had such a dramatic temperature spike is when my heat sink was clogged with dust. It's pretty easy to figure out if that is the case, and it's an easy fix to brush out the dust with an old toothbrush if that is the case.

Re: Sony Vaio heating issue
65 C is quite normal working temperature for intel processors, especially those on laptops
I wouldnt be worried unless it crosses 80 or maybe 90 C
Get a cpu cooling pad.. it helps.
