Debian Wheezy change Gnome theme

Post by ph0bYx »

I can't seem to change the theme. Actually I can't seem to install any new themes.
I've downloaded like a gazillion different themes and placed them in /home/.themes and /usr/share/themes, installed some murrine themes as well, installed some gnome-themes - basically did everything suggested by the first 2-3 pages of my google searches.
After all that all I see are window themes in gnome-tweak-tool, the GTK+ themes always stay the default ones, which I don't like and like to change.
What am I doing wrong?

gah....sorry, not enough sleep last night..

hmm....I am kinda out of ideas now, but I am asking myself why you are actually still using the pretty drab standard Window decorator when you already have Compiz installed. ever thought about setting up Emerald instead? :-k

Ah, I have Compiz installed on my desktop, not the laptop. I'll install it asap and report the results :)

Btw, finding a solution for this particular problem on google turned out to be most difficult. I expected better results, guess no many have encountered this problem...

I managed to fix my problem with the gnome themes. I feel embarrassed now, mind you!
The problem was that I was trying to use GTK2 themes instead of GTK3, all the GTK3 themes are working perfectly.
Sorry for wasting your time 8-[

But simple errors like that always make me glad that there is no bigger mess beneath it :D

exactly! and after the "duh!!" moment you are also often happy that it was a nice opportunity to learn things you wouldn't have learned if all would have went smooth... :D
