I can't seem to change the theme. Actually I can't seem to install any new themes.
I've downloaded like a gazillion different themes and placed them in /home/.themes and /usr/share/themes, installed some murrine themes as well, installed some gnome-themes - basically did everything suggested by the first 2-3 pages of my google searches.
After all that all I see are window themes in gnome-tweak-tool, the GTK+ themes always stay the default ones, which I don't like and like to change.
What am I doing wrong?

Re: Debian Wheezy change Gnome theme
hmm....shouldn't it be in the user's home dir? like /home/ph0byx/.themes
Re: Debian Wheezy change Gnome theme
Yes, it's that one. My bad, sorry!

Re: Debian Wheezy change Gnome theme
ok, put the theme folders into /usr/share/themes and see if it works then...
Re: Debian Wheezy change Gnome theme
I've put them on both folders as I mentioned up there

Re: Debian Wheezy change Gnome theme
gah....sorry, not enough sleep last night..
hmm....I am kinda out of ideas now, but I am asking myself why you are actually still using the pretty drab standard Window decorator when you already have Compiz installed. ever thought about setting up Emerald instead?

Re: Debian Wheezy change Gnome theme
Ah, I have Compiz installed on my desktop, not the laptop. I'll install it asap and report the results
Btw, finding a solution for this particular problem on google turned out to be most difficult. I expected better results, guess no many have encountered this problem...

Re: Debian Wheezy change Gnome theme
I managed to fix my problem with the gnome themes. I feel embarrassed now, mind you!
The problem was that I was trying to use GTK2 themes instead of GTK3, all the GTK3 themes are working perfectly.
Sorry for wasting your time

Re: Debian Wheezy change Gnome theme
no problem, I have spent hours once with trying to fix a problem that was caused by me forgetting to restart apache after adding a module already....
glad you got it figured out!

But simple errors like that always make me glad that there is no bigger mess beneath it

exactly! and after the "duh!!" moment you are also often happy that it was a nice opportunity to learn things you wouldn't have learned if all would have went smooth...
