thats not the correct link.. the correct link for freeBSD download is

http://www.freebsd.org/where.html

to learn installing freeBSD either buy a book "freeBSD 6.1 unleashed" but i dont know about copyright issues so cant say whether its legal to download e-copy, but this book rocks for sure.

Plus i have a *real* good experience with freeBSD so you can pm me for any problems and i m pretty sure that you will have problems configuring the X server, so i m already prepared to solve your problems ... :D

Other problem area during installation can be partitioning.. but just press 'A' and it will do it automatically

just a tip that the gnome and kde environments are a little different from traditional linux ones and the default windows environment sucks i think its something like XVM, i think you may install fluxbox.. i find it cool but its not on the cds.. on cd you can find a few of them.

basically freeBSD is for power users and yahoo uses freeBSD on its servers, also most of the routers and gateways on our ISPs run freeBSD so its a good OS to learn from hacker's point of view.

happy installation

most probably the next question of yours will be which one to download in that case you have to tell us your computers specs.. especially processor,
but be sure to ask which one to download before downloading it..

and why do you think we will deny you?? We are more than happy to be of any use to anyone rather than sitting on our computers for more than 16 hours a day and then having spinal chord disorders(like i had :( )

your hardware is good enough, my Linux box is a P2 338mhz with 392mb RAM, and it's working fine. if you're a beginner you really shouldn't use FreeBSD or OpenBSD, installation and especially xserver configuration (for a graphical desktop) can be very annoying, even for advanced users.
I recommend to use distros like Fedora or Debian:

http://www.debian.org
http://fedora.redhat.com/

my favorite is Debian btw....if you have further question just ask...

Assuming you want to use freeBSD 5.5 here's the correct link for your system

ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/relea ... MAGES/5.5/

and dont worry about your configuration.. i always defy the rules.. i have installed freeBSD on Pentium II 266mhz, 64Meg ram, 3.2Hard disk, ofcourse with lot of tweaking.
