well, maybe he used a bruteforce- or dictionary-attack to crack the pass, but in most cases passes can be guessed because people are too comfy to use good passwords, example:

bad password: your girlfriend's name, favorite football team, etc....
good password: 1GfJI=^$(+

use a strong password and the chance of cracking it is about zero.
