one more question

out of curiosity are there any files that windows uses while booting but does no longer use once it has booted. like files that are crucial to booting but not crucial to normally using the OS?

ntldr.exe // is the bootloader
boot.ini //contains boot options
ntdetect.com //detects the hardware during bootup
ntbootdd.sys //initialize SCSI devices (if available)
ntoskernel.exe //initializes the kernel modules and drivers
smss.exe //loads the services


umm...there are most likely more, but those are all I remember at the moment...

ntldr and most of the others are in C:\
ntoskernel is in C:\WINDOWS\system32

make sure to enable the option to show hidden files...

The best way would to be to get a machine to test it on. Just make sure you don't have anything to lose.

Delete > reboot. You'll know within 2 minutes.
