n00b entrance exam

Post by DNR »

a n00b entrance exam might be a good idea.
if a n00b is not willing to take time to complete an exam, we ain't got time for that lazy n00b.
of course the exam could be cheated, but if they take the time to do it, thats somewhat of a worthy n00b too.

I suggest a time limit and randomization of the questions to cut down on cheats.

Questions should be crossplatform.
Questions on ethics could screen out idiots that want to do damage- "We will review your test results and contact you, please do not PM.." we can program the server to drop these people lol.

I will do my homework for that and publish it somewhere in the Off-topic discussions for review then.

Yah, but don't make it too hard for 'em!!

Maybe..... So the newbies can get a better idea of what they are dealing with, ya know. So they can (hopefully) understand it isn't like in the movies <grins>.

As much as I like this idea (and I REALLY do), don't scare them off lol (yea, like I should talk, I know!!)
I've noticed quite a few of them either post under the Windows forum with simple computer questions or in the other forums with non-"hacker" related questions...

Dunno, just a though

I donno, should all the n00bs be sequestered in the newbies section? If it is your first post, perhaps it should be redirected to the newbies section.

A few questions are starting to repeat themselves, like "I got IP, teach me how to rimjob the ports"

I guess my previous experience in moderating was time consuming - you had to moderate new posts. This allows you to place the post in the proper forum and even delete the dumb ass post. I always thought if you open a 'club' you had a few bouncers by the door...

Then again, I can be pretty antisocial in public..

Hmm.. geeks2go.com does something sort of like that.
In order to be a part of the staff, you have to show knowledge of using HiJackThis Logs..if you can't, then they teach you.

Don't quote me on this..I'm not sure if thas XACTLY how it works.

Weeelllll....

I am an American expat living in Belgium. Have had 4 years of schooling in French, so I can read it and write it np. When it comes to pronounciation, I suck :)

Et vous?
Je sais que vous êtes canadien, mais êtes vous Français-Canadien ?

actually I´m working on an upload script at the moment, I hope it´ll be up until the end of the week... :)

hmm...I think a whole board would be too much for messenger issues (but it´s just my opinion, let me know what you think folks), but of course you can start a thread and make it a sticky one, mystik... :)
