Now, this comes before I have to kill via PID everything Opera loves and holds most dear....

eww.....zombie processes sometimes point to a bigger problem, the last time I've seen one was some minutes before a kernel bug hit the server and totally downed the complete mainframe (not the suck-o one, was the one where I host my customer sites)....

well, I've never used Opera (neither on Win nor on *nix), Epiphany totally sucks and Mozilla is a resource hog....ever tried Dillo? I really like it, it's lightweight and stable, but also userfriendly:

Ive used Opera on my nix and my win, from what Ive seen its more stable than FF, more secure than FF and doesnt eat as much memory(though havent ran FF since early 2.0 stages)

the last "good" Firefox was 1.0.7, it was pretty lightweight and fast, even if it crashed from time to time. but the newer versions became bloatware, and the bugs became very annoying...I use the newest 2.x version and for me copy&paste work totally unreliable also Javascript errors (see the "Latest News" box on the lower left corner? it sometimes appears in the middle of the site looking totally fragmented, I have to restart FF then). the only plus Firefox has is the modularity and that it's more secure than IE (well, it's no art.. ).
personally I use K-Meleon on Win and good old Lynx or Dillo on *nix...

dillo pickles

Post by LaBlueGirl »

That's what I got, pickles.

I check README, but the latest version of dillo doesn't compile with gtk+ 2.x.....
Also had to put glib into the path, which seems like a common compile issue I've been seeing a lot lately.

Well, it's good for my experience, and I found a very worthwhile site.

I had too many cold reboots with FF, mozilla wouldn't even start up or if I was lucky it would hang/crash, most pages aren't compatible at *all* with Konquerer and I can't access any of my email with it..
So it's back to Opera, which I ran on Windows.

While we remedied the operawrapper problem, I still have to run it from the shell. Which doesn't bother me, only in that there's no little icon saying 'Click Me'.

Sigh...
