Putty help...

I just downloaded and installed puty and attemptede connecting to a server and It prompts me for a password and username. I have no idea what password and username its talking about. I never created one so I don't know. I'm sorry if its a noob question but i need help. Thanks

You're connecting to a server that requires a user name and a password.

yep!! get yourself a free shell, when you register you will get a user name and password, then you may login to your shell..

I made my shell account from arbornet if that helps.

could not open connection is the error I get. Any Ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

hm, well, if you used the proper syntax like:

telnet host 25

an it don't want to connect do a MX DNS lookup of the IP, maybe simply the hostname is different. if the hostname is right and it don't work it might be the host simply don't offer SMTP services....

better yet does anyone know a site or tutorial that teaches putty from the ground up. At least the basics because I'm totally lost.
