who's online counter?

hey
i have noticed something here... that does not match one another....
that thing there is in the outside off the page that who counter how is online does not match the one in bottom off the where choose wich forum you go inte (the main site...) and im currius how do they work are they bound or do they work alone?

the counter on the forums displays only the people browsing the boards, the "who´s online"-block the people on the whole site. the boards are a stand-alone application which is just embedded into the site...
