many people confuse this, a server is not a computer, a server is an application running on a computer providing services to the outside...like ftp or websites for example. and each service has it's own logs.

I have to admit I'm not really into MS servers, so I can't say where to look for the logs, but for beginners a logviewer is maybe even better anyway:

i dont know if this is any help but i have a PEAK router and if i enter the settings / administration / logs it shows all the logs of conneced pc's , system logs and dos attacks. i can also set what type of logs i want to log or what type of dos attacks to deny. it also has a DNS lookup and a network diagnostics tool. chek your own router if you have 1 and see what little gimmicks it has for you.

i laso notice my router logs are also linux based
