xxxballer2352, theres basicly 2 ways to go. Either find an open service on the target computer, as in a program that is listening for connections, for example a webserver on port 80 or a FTP server on port 21. Or you can plant your own services that you use to take control over the computer, these are called "backdoors" or just "trojans". The name trojan is pretty obvious that it comes from the trojan horse and has that name because it's a malicious program hiding inside another program/file. This is what bubzuru was talking about. So start with gathering info as bad_brain said, and find a service that has vulnerability. Search for a "portscanner" or just use nmap. Once you have versionnumbers on services running you can start looking for vulnerabilities.

newbie tip:
dont use vulnerability scanners, once you know open ports, check them manually,
before making any connection to server, remember how it would show up in the log.
Once you've done the reconnaissance, it shouldnt be a problem.
Dont hack, we're not hackers, we are security enthusiasts, but we know to catch hackers, you need to think like them.
